Okay time to pull out the big guns by starting with Milton Grimm: Maybe it’s just me, but he seems to be either some form of a lawful neutral /well-intentioned extremist character or is at least someone who pretends to be.
Considering some of the plot points in Unfairest of Them All which I dare not spoil in this very post (and yes, I’ve read both EAH books), my suspicions of the latter have been raised. An older theory of mine suggests the latter as well.
For as little as we’ve seen him in the websodes, it might be strange when I outright say that he’s one of my favorite characters on the show, if not the favorite (sorry Cedar, although fortunately your design/cuteness factor pwns majorly him so you’re still before anyone else). Weird? Kinda. But eh, to me he’s just one of those characters that I love to hate: Manipulative asshat? Check. Stuffy authoritative nuisance whose very existence appears to be the reason why this whole entire show has a plot in the first place? Check. Turns into a chicken and plays with pony figurines in his spare time? double-check.
Okay so the chicken/pony thing I aren’t love-to-hate qualities so much as I find them funny, but yeah. Have a read-more because wow dat length.

Apple White, Cerise Hood and Briar Beauty Hat-Tastic Party
I know some people in the fandom have been speculating that these two backgrounders might be the children of Beauty and The Beast, respectively, and while I find the idea interesting, I’m conflicted. I’m all for this girl being Isabella Beauty, since it’s so rare that a dark skinned girl is presented outright as beautiful (that’s not to say that dark skinned girls are never treated as beautiful in fiction, just that this is the first time I’ve ever seen one defined specifically by her beauty). My conflict lies with the boy. I like that he seems to be a prince, since we currently have no princes of color in eah (I personally consider Hunter POC, but he’s not a prince). Still, I’m worried about the implications of making the black boy the “beast” when black boys irl are so often likened to wild, violent animals. Any thoughts?
Also, sorry for the low quality pics, but these were all I could find. Taken from the EAH wiki.
Honestly, there’s little to no indication that he actually will be the Beast, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it yet. It’s all just fandom speculation at this point and almost entirely based on the fact that he was standing next to the character that we all assume is Isabella a few times. I do very much hope that Isabella is that backgrounder. She’s gorgeous and, as you said, having a person of color representing the Beauty role would be really great.
I liked the idea of that boy being the Beast at first, mostly because I just think he’s a really handsome design, but I can definitely see why it could have bad implications, especially considering the historical representations of black people as somehow wild and savage. What’s interesting to me though is that I have never once seen anyone complain of that issue in reference to the Wolf family in Monster High. Their personalities in the show aren’t savage, obviously, but they are werewolves which are traditionally very beastly creatures and yet most people seem all for them. Is it because everyone in MH is a “beast” of some sort so it matters less?
At any rate I mostly have a wait and see attitude on this issue because I think that whether it is a major concern will depend greatly on how he is characterized in the show, if that character is indeed the beast at all.
The Wolf family never even crossed my mind, but you’re right! Clawd especially acts more often like an overgrown puppy than anything; I wouldn’t be surprised if the Beast got similar characterization, regardless of race. Guess I got a little ahead of myself and “cried wolf” too soon. (I’m sorry l that was terrible)
This is completely unrelated, but wouldn’t it be interesting if eah introduced a “Boy Who Cried Wolf” character and they had something to do with Cerise’s family secret being outed?
Hmmm. I do remember seeing some outcry over the Wolf family’s representation as black back when people were arguing over the whole does-Cedar-count-as-a-person-of-color-because-she’s-literally-made-of-wood controversy, but I won’t go into too much detail since the whole conversation is pretty messy. To me she’s black in the same way that a blond, blue-eyed Barbie doll from the 50s is white - she’s made of wood, but wood comes in different hues (like plastic) and Mattel could have just as easily made her “white”, so she should honestly count.
Anywho, I’m a big fan of the likelihood of her being the daughter of Beauty and the Beast, or perhaps even another cultural/local variant of the tale. Even if she isn’t, I’m clinging on to the possibility that she will be a canon character because her design is too darn gorgeous to waste, tbh.
Can’t really say I’ve speculated as far as the boy backgrounder goes, BUT: I wonder if it’s possible that, if he’s Isabella/girl-backgrounder’s brother, he’ll end up being someone else’s prince in another story while Izzy takes the role of the beast?
As for the unrelated bit: Maybe the child of the Boy Who Cried Wolf is related to Red Riding Hood, while the wolf’s child from the same story is related to Cerise’s dad?
